http://www.evansville.net/~aires/lyrics/beforestars Before They Were Stars -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Some hitch-hiked with back-pack loads While some tra-vel-ed end-less dus-ty roads. Some were luc-ky to have food with crus-ty mold Oth-ers had no mon-ey, ev-'ry-thing had been sold. It ain't ea-sy chas-ing dreams, that run from you All you can do is hope some-day they all come true. Play-in' gigs in some back-road dives Sing-in' and fight-in in honk-y-tonk bars. They paid their dues, and have their scars Some lived rough lives, be-fore they were stars. They had to fight the drunks and crowds Some-one al-ways yel-lin the mus-ic's too loud. Could-n't sit down, and played on their feet They sweat-ed and choked in the sum-mer heat. They paid the price, and learned their craft They sung in the sun, and the win-ter drafts. Seek-ing fame, and fans that screamed They kept writ-ing songs, and chas-ing their dreams. Be-fore they were stars, they drove wrecked cars Liv-ed week to week, and earn-ed bat-tle scars. Some worked hard to get on top Step-pin' ov-er those that flopped. Some end up with brok-en hearts And oth-ers fail, and nev-er start. Some can thank their luc-ky stars Oth-ers lost out be-fore they got too far. Some got trapped, and can't es-cape Oth-ers worked hard to get their break. No one know what goes on back-stage Or what hap-pen-ed in the bars. No one knows what they went through Be-fore they were stars. ©2000 by Glenn Smith (All rights reserved)
